Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’…

Well, it’s that time of year again. Selection Sunday is less than 3 weeks away as conference play enters it’s final stretch of games. Only 4 teams have been ranked #1 throughout the year (Alabama, Houston, Purdue, UNC) with one those teams (UNC) struggling of late and currently on the Bubble. The elevated level of parity in college basketball this season has only added to the onslaught of excitement. Some games to watch this week include:

  • 2/20 Kansas @ TCU (The Jayhawks seek revenge after getting crushed by the Horned Frogs 83-60 a month ago.)
  • 2/21 Marquette @ Creighton (The Bluejays are rolling having won 9 of 10 and a W against the Golden Eagles will put them in a tie for first place in the Big East.)
  • 2/22 New Mexico @ Boise St. (After starting the season 18-2 the Lobos have lost 5 of 7 and now find themselves on the Bubble. The Broncos hold second place in the Mountain West and are currently projected as a #10 seed in the Big Dance.)
  • 2/23 Eastern Wash. @ Weber St. (The Eagles have the longest current winning streak in college hoops (17 games) and another one would tie the Big Sky Conference record that just so happens to belong to the 1979-80 Weber St. Wildcats.)
  • 2/25 St Mary’s (CA) @ Gonzaga (The Gaels currently have a 1 game lead over the Bulldogs in the West Coast Conference. This high tempo Gonzaga team is second in the nation averaging 87.5 points/game. It should be a rollicking good time in Spokane!)
